Hi, butter beans! I’m popping in today to just chat about some life happenings, random thoughts, and things I’ve been loving lately!
I’ve been home for just over a month and it feels like it’s been a lot longer. It’s nice to be back. I’ve been loving being back in this beautiful lil city. There’s so much gorgeous nature and beauty here. I always appreciated this city, but I’ve just been extra in love with all the trees, weather, the beaches, and all the events that go on around here.
My last weekend in NYC, I actually spent in Boston for a music festival with some friends and it was so incredible. There were so many amazing shows, it was so fun to experience it with my friends, and there was a lot of delicious food, which was definitely a perk. Some highlights were Bon Iver, Sylvan Esso, Hannibal Buress, Tegan & Sara, and Weezer. The first day of the festival it ended up pouring rain, thankfully I had a rain poncho, but one of the stages was on a grass field, which just turned into a massive mud pit. For the Bon Iver show I was actually up to my ankles in mud and slowly sinking throughout the show. It was so worth it though.
Also this past weekend I went to a Michael Bernard Fitzgerald with my brother and sister in law and it was amazing. The venue was pretty small and intimate so I was right up front like 2 feet away from MBF as he played. Last year when I saw him he had a band with him, but this time it was just him and his guitar, which was so beautiful. Even got to give him a hug after the show #fangirl.
I’m on my way to my hometown right now (well as of the day this was posted) and am pretty excited. It’s been two years since I’ve been back up there and I can’t wait to see some of my favourite people. Part of why I’m heading up north is for the music festival they have on every summer. It’s always such a blast and this year City and Colour is headlining!!! So obviously I need to be there for that. I can’t wait to be right up front for that show with my best friends, crying as we are being serenaded by Dallas Green.
Okay TV talk. What have you been watching?! Big Brother is giving me life right now. This season is already SO crazy and I’m obsessed. If you’re into Big Brother, please talk to me about it!!!
I’ve also been rewatching Jersey Shore… It’s just so entertaining and a great mindless watch. Not going to lie, I’m pretty excited that they have a reunion in the works right now.
RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE. I mentioned my love for it in my things I’m loving lately and since then a queen was crowned for season 9. Sasha Velour was my number one since day one so I was so happy that she won. She slayed the lip syncs. At the same time it was so sad to see Shea Coulee have to sashay away. I was hoping they’d share the title <3 They also put season 8 up on Netflix so I’ve been watching that too. I’m hooked. Drag is just such a magical art. It blows my mind.
I also recently started watching Casual. It’s awkward, honest, and funny and I’m enjoying it!
Soooo since coming back, I started a new job and am so happy with it. I’m working at a new vegan spot here and it’s a really cool business. I get to work with my best friend and a bunch of other sweet people. I’ve gotten to start making donuts for them on the weekends, which is super gratifying. Like real deep fried donuts!! They’re the first vegan donuts in Victoria, which is pretty exciting too. I’m having fun with it. Also have been able to do some photography for them!! Excitement!
I’ll be real though, going from very few commitments and all the free time in NYC to being a real functioning human with a full time job is kind of kicking my butt. Still trying to figure out how to balance work, self-care, other job, blogging, friend/family time, and like life, yknow? If you have any helpful tips, I’d love to hear them!
Since discovering the magic that is Boba Guys in NYC, I’ve been hooked on bubble tea. I made my own boba recently, they were okay. I also went to a bubble tea shop near my house and asked for just the tapioca boba… They laughed at me, but they gave me some for $1.50 and it was enough for two bubble teas soooo, #lifehack.
This giant vegan brinner collab is so full of goodness! So many of my faves working together!! Caitlin’s pizza and Natalie’s maple bacon granola (with cauliflower?! MAGIC) are definitely going to happen in my kitchen.
A podcast recommendation! The Heart did a mini-series called No and it was incredible. It’s 5 (?) episodes and touches on some really important topics. It really got me thinking and it was just really well done.
This is one of the best articles I’ve read lately. It’s just so passionate, well written, and so hilarious to me. Rereading it right now and it somehow got even funnier. It’s all I think about when I see people wearing them now too.
Some changes are coming around these parts (aka love me, feed me is getting a much needed revamp) and I couldn’t be more ecstatic about it. The lovely Kat Araujo is making magic for me and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with. I met Kat through my internship and she has made such an impact on my life. She is a ray of sunshine that has an incredible mind, so much talent, and is such a kind, nurturing soul. She’s also honest, real, full of wise words, and so fun to be around. I’m so grateful to have connected with her and excited to follow along with her journey.
The redesign has been in the works for a while now and I’m so giddy to see and to show you the final results!
What’s new with you? What are you excited about?
