Oh podcasts, how I love thee.
It’s about time I share my favorite podcasts with you! It’s been a post I’ve been wanting to make for ages, but the amount of podcasts I adore made it a daunting task. But alas, here we are.
I’m nearly always listening to podcasts – when I work, walk, commute (so much commuting in NYC), cardio, and sometimes when I’m trying to fall asleep. Podcasts are life. I’m also super picky about my podcasts. There have been many I’ve tried to get into, but just can’t deal with and many shut off just minutes in. But there are still so many that have my heart.
Here are the ones that have me continuing to go back for more. Some make me laugh, some inspire me, some are informative, and some a little sad.
This is the first podcast I discovered after Serial (aka the gateway podcast) and I fell in love immediately. It continues to be my favourite and I get so excited each time there’s a new episode. I love Jessica Murnane so much and she just brings on the best guests ever. They have real conversations and they are always ultra inspiring. There’s a wide variety in the guests she brings on and the topics they cover, which I love. It has introduced me to so many badass humans. She also has some mini episodes called “Things That Freak My Week” which are always fun listens.
Favourite Episodes: Misophonia, Prioritizing What’s Important, And Being A Messy Bessy With Ashlae Warner Of Oh, Ladycakes, Diet Culture, Emotional Eating, And Learning To Love Your Body With Isabel Foxen Duke, and Asking For What You Want With Julia Turshen Of Small Victories. Plus basically every other episode…
That’s So Maven is newer in the podcast-o-spere and it’s already killing it. Davida is a rockstar host and has had such incredible guests. They talk about health, wellness, self-care, and so much more.
Favourite Episodes: Jessica Murnane – Can You Heal Your Body With Food and Lee Hersh – Can You Work With Your Best Friend
Another newer podcast that has quickly made its way into my heart. Chasing Joy is all about meaningful conversations about wellness. Georgie is such a fun host, she just always has me smiling! The goal of the podcast is to inspire an energetic and joyful life and it does an amazing job of doing that. The guests so far have all been incredible and each has such a unique topic to chat about. It’s extra fun because lots of my blogger friends have been on or are going to be on the podcast!
Favourite Episodes: A Positive and Intuitive Approach Fitness with Les Alfred
This podcast really is a breath of fresh air. Real Talk Radio is honest conversations with inspiring people about all the ups and downs. It’s hosted by Nicole Antoinette and she is just a sunbeam. She has an inspiring story of her own and talks to some really incredible people all about their journeys, struggles, and triumphs. There’s a wide variety of guests – athletes, entrepreneurs, activists, writers, and so much more. The episodes are pretty lengthy, which I’m a fan of.
Favourite Episodes: Dallas Clayton on Play, Art, and The Power of Encouraging Others, Dana Shultz on Spontaneity, Marriage, and Creating Delicious Recipes, and Jessica Murnane on Plant-Based Eating, Endometriosis, and The Emotional Side of Change (do you sense a pattern? #fangirl)
The podcast for making peace with your body and food. Christy talks with leaders in the body positive and Health At Every Size worlds about eating, body image, eating disorders, fitness, and everything in between. It’s an incredibly positive podcast featuring some great people to follow along with if you’re sick of the typical #fitspo and dieting culture. Authentic conversations about important topics. It’s an incredibly healing podcast with such a beautiful mission.
This is a new podcast find for me and I’ve been listening to it a loooot. The two hosts are really entertaining and they talk about everything from tarot to crystals to weed to sex. They interview gurus and lady bosses in all different fields and walks of life. It’s just a fun podcast. I’ve had the theme song stuck in my head for so long.
The Chopped Podcast is all about food blogging, Marley interviews food bloggers and they talk tips, tricks, and sometimes things to avoid. It’s really useful, informative, and always gets me so inspired. Whenever I need a blogging boost, this podcast is my go to.
Another podcast about all things food blogging. I’m a huge fan of Bjork and Lindsay of Pinch of Yum, they’ve had incredible success with their blog, and I love how much they give their audience in terms of help and guidance. Every episode is so informative and always a bit fun. For most of the episodes, Bjork speaks to people that are killing it in the food blogging world and some episodes are shorter and just feature Bjork and/or Lindsay. Always motivates me to get behind the camera, in the kitchen, or writing!
Favourite Episodes: 059: 9 Ways to Avoid Blogger Burnout with Bjork & Lindsay Ostrom, 061: Our Very First Community Podcast: Advice and Insight from the FBP Community, and 079: How Finding a Unique Niche Led to YouTube Success with Lauren Toyota from Hot For Food
First of all, I love Nicole Culver. She seriously has such a huge heart and is so kind and it really shines through this podcast. Nicole talks to entrepreneurs about their journeys, successes, and even sometimes about what didn’t work out. It’s encouraging and illuminating. She speaks to a lot of really neat people in all different stages of their businesses. She also does weekly 5-10 minute episodes with tips and tricks of her own. Always worth a listen!
Some more Jessica Murnane love! She documented her entire cookbook process including interviews, meltdowns, and so much real talk. As a cookbook addict, it’s really cool following along with how her beautiful cookbook came to life.
Reply All is tied for my favourite podcast. I’ve been an avid listener since I first discovered it shortly after diving into podcasts and it has never let me down. Basically, it’s a show about the internet, but it’s a lot more. The hosts, PJ and Alex, are so entertaining and hilarious. The stories they tell are sometimes strange and hilarious, but other times they’re serious and painful. There’s a nice balance and I am always interested. Even the sponsored ads they do are funny.
They often have a segment called “Yes Yes No” and they are always enjoyable.
Did I mention that I LOVE this podcast?!
Favourite Episodes: #64-67 On The Inside, #74 Making Friends, and #79 Boy in the Photo (+so many more)
Every week there’s a theme and each episode is a compilation of incredible stories on that theme. The themes differ a lot as well as the stories so it’s always new and exciting. It’s hosted by Ira Glass who has a beautiful voice and is an incredible journalist and storyteller. The shows are composed of journalism, essays, and sometimes comedy bits. This podcast is just a gem, it’s honestly never boring and has brought so many incredible stories to my attention. Some inspiring, some heartbreaking, some relatable, and some hilarious.

This podcast! It’s so good! Basically, you are eavesdropping on two long distance besties conversations about anything and everything. They talk about politics, Kardashians, feminism, periods, and everything in between. It’s informative, entertaining, and inspiring. I just want to be best friends with the both of them! Until then, being a part of their conversations is pretty cool.

DTR is a short podcast series made by Tinder and Gimlet Creative all about navigating the world of online dating and the digital age of relationships. It’s no secret online dating has become the norm and this podcast explores the good, the bad, and the awkward bits and pieces of it. If you’re trying to get more right swipes, this podcast has some good tips on getting the most out of your Tinder profile. Even if you’re not one for online dating, it’s just really fascinating. Some of the episodes are also just really fun.
This podcast is a part of the HowStuffWorks podcast line (all great) that focuses on all things women related. It covers everything from past to present. From menstruation to body image to psychology to millennial problems and everything in between. The two hosts are really wonderful and make the podcast feel light and fluffy. They’re entertaining and so smart. The topics they cover are so fascinating and they’ve covered just about everything you could think of.
This podcast makes me feel like a real adult who knows things about politics. Each episode has a theme and is a compilation of progressive and liberal news regarding that theme. There’s a mix of songs, comedy bits, news, and stories. It’s really well done and informative.
This is another new to me podcast that has quickly stolen my heart. I really enjoy Michael Ian Black, he’s funny, insightful, and just seems so genuine. The in-depth conversations he has with amazing people are always fascinating and humourous. Michael dives deep into how the guest got to where they are today covering their creative processes, struggles, and their successes. Sometimes it feels like you’re eavesdropping on a therapy session. He has had so many incredible guests, some of my favourite people and some new to me people doing incredible work. It’s always a joy to listen to.
Yep, this is what it sounds like. Hosts, Karen and Georgia share murder stories in each episode. The two of them have really great chemistry and just do this podcast so well. It starts with a life update of sorts and the two of them are so funny and entertaining. Then they go into their stories, which are of course twisted, but I find it incredibly intriguing. They also share mini episodes featuring listener’s hometown murder stories. If you’re into creepy stories, this podcast is for you. Probably not best for the faint of heart.
Invisibilia explores all the invisible forces that control human behaviour. It’s a really well put together podcast, each episode is captivating and thought-provoking. There is a mix of storytelling and scientific research in each episode all surrounding a theme. I’ve happily listened to every episode and am crossing fingers there are more to come.
This podcast is all about unfinished stories. Jonathan Goldstein is seriously so funny and the stories he shares are always so great. He helps people find answers or closure to the crucial moments in their life. There is a light hearted feel, but some of the stories are deep and personal. So far there are only 8 episodes and I’m really hoping for another season of this podcast!
This podcast is hilarious. It always has me laughing out loud. Anna Faris chats with a different celebrity each episode and they answer call in questions and just chat. The conversations are often ridiculous and always entertaining. Sometimes the advice is pretty solid as well.
Favourite Episodes: Ep #07 – Ike Barinholtz, Ep #41 – Julia Stiles, Ep #77 – Milo Ventimiglia
The Heart is an audio art project exploring stories of love, intimacy, and humanity. It’s beautiful and sometimes tragic. The episodes are short and addictive. It’s real and raw. It touches on so many topics and truths that are unspoken. It has almost an indie movie vibe and I dig it. Karen is a really wonderful storyteller and all of the contributors are incredible.
Favourite Episodes: All of the 2017 Pansy season
This is my bedtime podcast. If I’m ever having trouble sleeping, I pop an episode of this on and it always does the trick. Not that it’s boring in the slightest! The stories are really interesting and the host has the most lovely calming voice. The episodes are short and dive deep into fascinating history.
I honestly feel like I have so many more worth mentioning, but these are probably my most listened to. I’m sure I’m missing some gems and that I’ll fall in love with a hundred more in the next while. If you’re a podcast junkie, please message me so we can gush about all things podcast. I hope you find some new podcast favourites amongst these faves of mine!
