Although this past week has been ‘global warmingly’ warm, since being in New York I’ve also experienced a snow storm, lots of rain, and even some freezing rain. Needless to say, cozy drinks have been my everything. Coffee, endless amounts of tea, hot chocolate, and my newest discovery – matcha hot chocolate.
Let’s be real though, I drink all of the above in the warm weather too.
It’s been a while since we’ve sat down and chat! But yes hello I am here in New York. I’m settled into my little room and am getting familiar with the neighbourhood. I’ve eaten so many things and reconnected with so many lovely people. It has been wonderful. It has also been really hard though. Which is why I’ve been quiet – I’ve been trying to process this all myself.
Coming back to NYC has been something I’ve dreamt of just about since I left in May, so to say I was excited would be an understatement. But in coming here I expected to feel a certain way. I’ve always felt that this is where I thrive, so I thought everything would be better as soon as I landed – I’d be happier, motivated, inspired, and energized. Everything else would just drift away. But spoiler alert: it’s not that simple – running away isn’t a fix all answer.
Don’t get me wrong, I am overjoyed to be here and beyond grateful. I’ve just been navigating some weird feelings and messy jumbled thoughts. Being here with so little belongings, less commitments, and less people I have so much more time, space, and mental brain power to really focus on myself. It’s sort of forcing me to really reflect on things that are going on within and sort out these issues that have been lingering and it’s daunting.
I’m finding ways to embrace the discomfort. I know it’s for the best and will only help me continue to grow. While everything feels unsure and jumbled, I wholeheartedly know that this is the best place for me to work through it all.
Whew, that was a lot. Now you really deserve a drink! Join me in sipping on one of these matcha hot chocolates?
The matcha gives the hot chocolate such a beautiful earthiness, while still being rich and chocolatey. The two work surprisingly well together to create a wonderful cozy drink. Plus a touch of salt to round it all out. Giving it a quick blend in the blender makes it so frothy and smooth – always my go to to make hot drinks extra special.
It’s simple, quick, and seriously cozy. It also just tastes so warm and nourishing. If you have some maca on hand, I think that would be a perfect touch for more depth of flavor. Feel free to load it up with superfoods that make you feel extra goddess-y. You do you, boo.
If you do give this matcha hot chocolate a try, let me know! Leave a comment, post about it on social media, send me a letter, yknow.
