It’s been a while since I’ve shared my eats, but instead of a full day of eating, I thought I’d share a handful of things I’ve been eating since in NYC.
While at home, my meals are more are less the same basic goods as always – rice, beans, greens, sweet potatoes, and oatmeal because they’re budget-friendly, delicious, and nourishing. But I also eat out a loooot more because hello it’s New York and a vegan haven. Spoiler: so many donuts #noshame.
98% of the time breakfast is oatmeal. It’s so cheap, it’s delicious, and it always keeps me full for hours. I love adding flax or chia for added nutrients plus it makes it even heartier. I’ve also been obsessed with Califia Farms Toasted Coconut Almond Milk – it’s seriously the best. Especially poured over oats.
Proof of the other 2% of breakfasts. I treated myself to some Forager cashew yogurt and it’s SO good! I’d been seeing it all over instagram, so I was excited to get my hands on it. I enjoyed it with banana, a mix of cereal and oats, raisins, and Raw Rev glo bar bits.
Toast! Toast! Toast! I found whole wheat sourdough and knew I needed it in my life. Topped with jam + cashew butter and hummus, arugula, and smoked tofu. That savoury slice was gamechanging. So good.
After an extra indulgent few days, I was craving veggies so hard. This veggie powerbowl hit the spot. Rice, cabbage, tomatoes, carrots. lettuce, spinach, chickpeas, and spicy yellow lentil hummus.
I won a Cake in a Crate on Instagram and it arrived just in time for my birthday. So Jasmine and I whipped up the Chocolate Hazelnut Mini Cakes and oh. my. god!!!! These cakes. That texture. I don’t even know how to do them justice with words. They were just so soft, tender, and full of flavor. I ate way too many, but it was my birthday soooo.
Now on to the more fun stuff…
One of my first stops here in the city was DunWell Doughnuts. I had been craving donuts so hard, so this was so needed. I got the blueberry donut with peanut butter drizzle and it was perfect.
Turmeric ice cream with palm sugar cookie from Van Leeuwen’s.
byCHLOE Quinoa Taco Salad + Matcha Dark Chocolate Babka. I’m not usually one to order salads, but this salad is way too good. And that babka… Whoa. Actual bread-y perfection. I may or may not have eaten it twice since being here.
Melanie and I stopped by a little vegan market for Standing Rock and shared this Smoky Mac and Cheese from That’s Cheezy. Hands down the best mac and cheese I’ve tried. It was so rich and creamy, studded with mushrooms, and topped with crunchy nutty parmesan.
We also split this crazy Cannoli Donut from Peaceful Provisions. They actually make the most unique (and hugest) donuts ever. This one was filled with sweet Kite Hill Ricotta frosting and topped with chocolate, cannoli bits, and powdered sugar.
So just a couple weeks later, I visited the VgnMrkt and couldn’t resist this Samoa donut from Peaceful Provisions… This was stuffed with the most incredible dulce de leche cream and topped with just as incredible caramel coconut goodness. Words can’t even describe the magic that is this donut. I couldn’t make it through, but I sure did eat every bit of topping.
Also at the market I braved the line to get my hands on some of Veganico’s tacos! They were unreal. I don’t even know what was in them, but they were both so delicious.
Last week, I met sweet Christiana in the city and we stopped at Cinnamon Snail for lunch. Since we were both dying over everything on the menu, we split two sandwiches, which is 100% the way to go. This was the Red Curry Grilled Tofu on a pretzel bun (!!) and the other was Teriyaki Tofu with brussels sprouts (!!). Always amazed with Cinnamon Snail’s innovative sandwiches and burgers.
And that’s just a handful of the goodies I’ve been enjoying lately! Here’s your lil reminder to listen to your body, honour its needs and also its cravings. Treat yourself with love and compassion. Obsessing, stressing, and feeling guilty over every little thing you eat is worse for your health than a donut. You do you, boo.
